In the first paragraph of its Mission
Statement, Villanova University sets out the preeminent goal for all of its members:
"The University is a community of persons of diverse professional,
academic, and personal interests, who, in a spirit of collegiality, cooperate to achieve
their common goals and objectives in the transmission, the pursuit, and the discovery of
knowledge." Further, "this community serves society by developing and
sustaining an environment in which all of the potentialities of its members may be
realized."
The thrust of this paragraph alerts all who join our community that we should and do
share common goals concerning the acquisition of knowledge. Moreover, the University
intends to serve the broader society, beyond its proper scholarly agenda, by creating a
supportive ethos both inside and outside of the classroom, where the full potential of
each member, regardless of role or educational level, can be realized.
